Children love to cook if taught when they are young. It is a wonderful way for a family to be together, preparing then eating the meal and talking about their day’s events and feelings.

I have a couple of rules when cooking with little ones :

1. Wash hands very well – soap and water; then dry.

2. Everyone wears an apron, girls and boys, to protect their clothes ( we WILL get dirty – part of the fun).

3. Hair is pinned or pulled back if long – we don’t want any ‘whispies’ to fall into the food.

4. Children will stay away from hot things.

5. Knives are FINE under supervision – i.e. I hold the knife and the little one puts his or her hand OVER mine and we cut together. They love that – it gives them the feeling of cutting but no danger involved.
